When reacting to stress, environmental factors or the aging process, our bodies produce free radicals. If they become too numerous, they can have harmful effects on the body, including the creation of certain illnesses.
We have to keep in mind that a healthy diet rich in a variety of vegetables and fruit may help reduce the risk of some types of cancer.
Your body's invisible army
Here's where antioxidants come into play. These compounds protect the body from damage caused by free radicals. Like vitamins A, C and E, anthocyanins and polyphenols (compounds found in berries, apples, citrus fruit, tea and nuts) have antioxidant properties.
Antioxidants are the subject of several scientific publications related to their role in protecting the body against heart disease and cancer.
